Endless perimeters in the sky
I grasp your view like prey
And guide your eyes
Into the sun
As I draw circles with golden fire
Trailing in feathered bands
At my wingtips,
Lit from above.

Help Along the Road

Posted by HWD on October 16, 2006

This is about corporate and aviation charitable organizations offering a free ride to help people get where they need to be for urgent medical needs:

Angel Flight America
Corporate Angel Network

I put these links here because I feel these organizations have sort of a biker’s way of thinking when it comes to the kindness of stopping for stranded people, sharing expertise and resources, and helping people get back up and on the road when the help is needed most.

What these two organizations do is provide transportation to people in serious medical need to travel to specialists that may be a far and otherwise expensive flight away.

I like that idea, of corporations offering the free seats on their private jets to cancer patients who need to be somewhere for a special treatment, and of the pilots and airlines offering their services free to people with both medical and financial problems of a serious nature.

Good show, both orgs! Well worth a tip of the hat.

My best to you,

HWD

Apple Farms and Motorcycles

Posted by HWD on October 9, 2006

This was the kind of day you remember for its perfection. Not to say everything that happened was all perfect, just that if you’re in the Northeast, you savor the entire day when you get one like this.

We went to an apple farm, Goolds, for an Art and Craft Festival. I’ve grown to really enjoy the various Festivals around the area at this time of the year. We met up with a couple of friends, and wandered around, looking at some fused glassworks, some tin items, in paricular.

I am not a folk art enthusiast, so at least half the vendors didn’t draw me in. However, I did buy some pumpkin spice-scented miniature pumpkins to complete a centerpiece, and now have a cinnamon-scented wire pumpkin that hangs in the front window by the door. That’s as far as I delve into folksy stuff. And, I was given the gift of a charming fused glass snowman in a snowglobe pin, because, well, I just like snowmen if they’re done well and love well done fused glass. Call it a weakness. This will definitely be worn at the Holiday parties with family. I guess I have fondness for skillful fused glasswork because it’s one material I don’t work in, lacking the equipment and materials to do so effectively.

We also found an attractive Autumn table runner of substantial tapestry material hand-sewn and double sided. I’m thinking very few people use table runners these days, because it’s an item rarely found in the department stores. My opinion is, if you have a house with a little room to decorate for the various Seasons, hey, why not? I’m all for colorful home surroundings.

After the Festival, we headed back home, and right back out again for a motorcycle ride with our same friends.

This afternoon, to add to the perfection of the day, the sky overhead had that deeper Autumn blue color, and by then it was about 70 degrees and full afternoon sun. The contrast of that deep blue with the tints of orange and crimson leaves were striking. We rode until we could see the Catskill mountains in the distance, not far from Hudson, NY. Then a cup of coffee, and started to head back.

We stopped at a great other Apple farm not far from there, where we actually had to go on a written waiting list for an order of their signature cider donuts (among the best in the area, I think), and we finally bought the donuts, hot and fresh from the oven, and headed home.

When I got my leather jacket, vest, boots off inside, I noticed my face felt a bit warm and uncomfortable, and looked in the bathroom mirror. It was definitely windburn.

So now I’m pink cheeked with pink nose and ears for at least the rest of the night. I’m not fond of that look on me, but I’ll live.

Still, it was so beautiful outside. I wouldn’t have missed it.

I hope you also had a chance to be out in what I’d call a perfect Autumn day.

My best to you,

HWD
