In the Studio
Inspiration.
Take a ride. Leave all your senses open to what and who you pass by. Can you see that horse-filled field in the late afternoon sun? You smell it before you see it, don’t you?
See the man gawking and then reluctantly waving as he mows his lawn? Do you smell freshly cut lawn before seeing it, or afterward? Can you taste it, a little, when you risk bugs flying in your face while you smile and wave back for just a moment?
The air rushing past carries the scent of spring’s blossoming trees to you along the high hills, flipping up the fringe on your vest to sting your face every so often.
Unexpectedly, a stunningly long view of landscape is just to your right, or your left, or just straight ahead on the afternoon ride.
Hey, it’s that easy to find inspiration. Maybe not for all kinds of art, but for the beauty of connecting your senses to the landscape, flora, fauna, and people you find along the ride, what can I say but try it!
This reminds me to bring my camera next time I go to Thacher Park. Talk about the view!
My best to you,
HWD
