Tour and Run
RAINCHECK RUN – 6/28/06
Three weekends of torrential rain, and those same three weekends of supposedly outdoor events. The events were nice, but no riding at any of them.
We made up for it, though.
I’ve come up with an idea for a new kind of run. We’re calling it the Raincheck Run. This is when you and your friends go for a weekend event, stay over and intend to ride but the weather doesn’t allow for it, so you call for a Raincheck Run. You get your buddies together when you know for a fact that it’s going to be beautiful out, and you do your riding then in perfect weather.
So far, it’s working out great. Try it out sometime, it really works.
Next time, I bring the camera!
My best to you,
HWD

FINDS ALONG THE RIDE – 5/18/06
We went out for a last-minute ride today near home, and sometimes those are just the best. Rain was threatening to happen, so we grabbed helmets and took off, glancing at the sky every so often between sightseeing to be sure we weren’t headed into the thunderstorms.
What’s so great about these kinds of rides? It’s what you find along the way, the planless enjoyment of going nowhere in particular with all the scenery you can pack into a couple of hours.
Our surprise finds this time were a bit of mountainous scenery tucked away along a quiet stretch of road, and a brand new summer lunch stand near a lake, one that I remember from childhood with a different name and owner, but just as great.
Great start to Spring riding! Oh, and didn’t get anything creative done, but my excuse on that is if I’m out there taking in all that scenery, I’m stockpiling some great visuals in my head for later.
My best to you,
HWD
